You will be sent an appointment
to attend the surgery when your child's immunisation or routine assessments are
due. In addition, the health visitors run a baby clinic on Wednesday afternoons
for weighing babies and advice on problems such as sleeping, feeding, child health
worries etc; no appointment is necessary for this clinic.
New Patients
When you register with the practice, you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire
about your health, to help us until we obtain your records from your previous
doctor. You will also be asked to attend a new patient appointment with one of
our nursing staff. We regard this very important.
Disease Management
The practice sisters have had specific training in asthma and diabetes and, along
with your doctor, are involved in providing education, instruction and treatment.
Patients with diabetes, asthma, hypertension, heart disease or those requiring
regular review will be invited to attend the practice nurse and/or their GP at
least once per year.
Well Woman
All women aged between 20 and 60 are strongly advised to have a cervical smear
every three years. A letter will be sent to advise when your next smear is due,
and requesting you to make an appointment. Appointments for cervical smears and
well woman advice can be made with our practice sisters (please advise the receptionist
the nature of your appointment when booking). We will write to you with the result
of your cervical smear, and advise when your next smear is due.
Breast Screening - 50 to 70 years. Patients aged 70 years+ are also encouraged
to attend. A mobile screening van visits on a three-yearly basis. Women aged
50 or over are invited to attend.
Family Planning
Contraceptive care is provided by all the doctors during normal surgery hours.
Contraceptive reviews are carried out twice per year alternately by the GP and
practice nurses (please advise the receptionist the nature of your appointment
when booking).
If the GP has agreed that the Depo injection is suitable for you the practice
nurse will administer it every three months.
Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations
Please make an appointment at least eight weeks in advance of your holiday, with
our practice sister (please advise the receptionist the nature of your appointment
when booking). The practice nurse will carry out a 'risk assessment', provide
advice and arrange a vaccination schedule.
Some vaccines are available at no charge from the NHS, other vaccines may require
a private prescription - you will be informed accordingly at your appointment.
The practice is an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.
For further information you can log on to www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk
Flu Vaccination
An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients with heart,
stroke, lung (including asthma), kidney disease, diabetes, residents of nursing
and rest homes and all patients aged 65 or over. Also included are children in
these disease categories. Details of the vaccination programme will be made available
in the autumn. If you are housebound, a home visit will be arranged.
Non-NHS Examinations
The doctors are happy to carry out medicals, eg insurance and driving licence
medicals, by appointment, outside routine consultation times. A charge will be
made for all non-NHS examinations; our reception staff can advise you of the
charge when you book the appointment.
