Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Please note - as from Thursday 01 March 2012 the sugery will be closed between 12.30 - 1.30pm to allow for staff training and administration.

The telephone switchboard is closed between 12.30 and 1.30pm Monday to Friday. In an emergency, please telephone the normal surgery number (01505 863223) and you will be given details of how to contact the emergency doctor.

Surgery Times

Every day, one of the partners is the duty doctor “on-call”. These doctors are responsible for responding to requests for triage/urgent appointments and house calls. When not on-call, the partners offer surgeries for routine appointments. During periods of annual leave other partners, on a rota basis, cover the duty doctor and child health clinics.

NHS 24 operates the emergency service out of hours and can be contacted on 08454 24 24 24. Alternatively you may telephone the normal surgery number (01505 863223) and you will hear a recorded message, explaining the emergency service and giving you the contact number for NHS 24.

When you call you may be offered advice, invited to attend the Emergency Centre, or a house call may be arranged.

Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
