Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Repeat Prescriptions

green pills Repeat prescriptions will be issued at the doctor’s discretion and are normally for patients on long-term treatment. Repeat prescriptions can be ordered by:

All prescriptions ordered will be ready for collection after 4.00pm - 48 hours after ordering. (or Monday, for prescriptions ordered on a Friday).

Please remember to order early If your medication is due to run out over the weekends or holidays. If prescriptions are required urgently please speak to the reception staff. With the exception of those patients who are housebound, we are unable to take orders for repeat prescriptions over the telephone.

You can now order repeat medication only by clicking on the link above. Unfortunately we cannot process special requests in this manner, if required please telephone the surgery.

If you wish to collect your prescribed medication from any of the local pharmacies who participate in the collection scheme, this can be arranged by completing a form. Please ask at reception for details.

If you are on regular repeat medication, you should attend the doctor at least once a year for a review of your medication.

CHANGES TO YOUR REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS - NHS GREATER GLASGOW AND CLYDE

Your GP practice is carrying out a review of its repeat prescribing systems as part of a Health Board initiative to improve the quality of patient care and reduce prescription waste.

As a result of this you may notice the following minor changes at your next supply of repeat medication:

Quantities of some items may have changed to bring them into line with the practice's standard number of days. This should make re-ordering your repeat medicines simpler with regular items lasting for the same number of days.

"When required" items will be excluded from changes to quanties because the amount you use will vary from month to month. Some other items, eg sleeping tablets or strong painkillers, will also be excluded in keeping with good prescribing practice.

Unused Items which you no longer require and have not ordered for over 12 months will be removed from your repeat re-order list to prevent them being ordered in error.

Some medicines which may only be ordered occasionally, eg GTN sprays or Epinephrine, will be left on repeat re-order lists because it is recognised that they are only used infrequently.

Duplicate items will also be removed from your repeat re-order list to stop them being over-ordered. This will prevent accidental overdosing and reduce the amount of wasted medicines.

In addition, if there are any other repeat items which you no longer require please let your surgery know so they can also be removed.
